Categories

The Awards are in two main categories recognising excellence in providing the industry with timely solutions for the products and the services that enable manufacturers to meet, and even exceed, technology and business goals.

Category One

This category focuses on improvements to manufacturing needs in a fast evolving and highly technical industry.

Category Two

The second category of the IC Industry Awards focuses on the services, institutions and organisations that support the manufacturing community. All companies know that creating tools and processes is not enough for success and there is a vast support network that deserves recognition.

Category One

Materials
The material requirements of manufacture microelectronic devices are as diverse as they are technically impressive. Whether it is the material used for wafers, packaging or new materials to further technological advancement, manufacturing depends on the timely delivery of materials with exceptional technical parameters.

Enabling material
This Award is open to any new materials that have enabled advancement in manufacturing microelectronic devices

Improvement Award
This Award recognises improvements made to existing materials either by their make up or delivery

Yield Management
Semiconductor manufacturing requires such rigid parameters that every minor improvement to the process can mean the difference between success and failure. Yield management has moved on from simple metrology and consulting to become a critical component of success in such a demanding manufacturing environment.

New Tool Award
This Award recognises excellence for tools that improve yield management in semiconductor manufacturing.

Best Process Award
The Yield management ptocess is more than just measurement, and this Award is presented for any idea that has resulted in an improvement in yield management. The final list will be chosen from the most creative and innovative nominations. The nominee may be an individual or a company.

Wafer Processing
The processing of a wafer to create microelectronic devices involves a number of highly complex and technical steps to achieve the devices that drive the electronics industry. As important as each step is, it is the integration of all these processes that determines the outcome of the manufacturing process. The processing requires diffusion, bake, lithography, etch, implant, clean, as well as all the ancillary processes and support to create the desired outcome. Once the tool sets are in, it is the creative approaches of the engineers that ensure constant creative leaps.

Best Tool Award
This Award recognises the tool that has enabled wafer processing to create both new and improved devices. Within the machinations of microelectronics manufacturing, there are bottlenecks delaying technical advances that are not always obvious. The manufacturers of devices know exactly what has assisted them to achieve corporate goals and here is a chance to recognise these achievements.

Best Process Award
Integration of all the manufacturing ingredients is the key to success. This Award is for the company, individual or organisation behind the development of key integration processes for successful wafer processing.

FMT Final Manufacturing Technology
Final manufacturing technology, including test, assembly and packaging, has come a long way from being the back end of the microelectronics industry. With smaller devices and a blurring of the line between device and packaging, this area has become as complex and important as every aspect of manufacturing.

Best Tool Award
Nominations are invited for the best tool in advancing final manufacturing needs for the semiconductor industry.

Best Process Award
Having the right tools and materials is only as useful as the people putting them into action. This Award recognises the company or individual who have developed processes that have enabled fMT solutions to industry challenges.

Sub System/Component Provider
The tools required for semiconductor manufacturing are actualised as a result of many companies providing innovative sub systems and components to the tool manufacturers. These sub systems and components can be a critical enabler for the success of a given tool.

New System/Component Award
This Award recognises excellent in providing tool manufacturers with the elements they need to develop tools with the exacting requirements of device manufacturers. This may be a delivery system, power supply or any element of a tool that is developed and manufactured by another company than the tool manufacturer.

Improvement Award
Not all improvements are from new developments and this Award recognises the continuing development companies make to the products and processes they provide.

Category Two

R&D Initiative Award - Sponsored by
The cost of research and development for new innovations in microelectronics manufacturing have increased to the point that most companies are no longer able to afford to develop new ideas on their own. This Award recognises the recent trend of R&D initiatives that ensure the industry maintains the impressive rate of technological advancement.

Outsourcing Service Award
Maintaining and managing any company these days is no easy task. Many companies now outsource aspects of their daily requirements to a specialist in a given area. This Award is for those companies providing outsourcing services that help improve a company’s productivity.

Start Up Company of the year
The EuroAsia Start Up Award is now in its fifth year and the successful record of previous recipients is testament to the success of the Award. To be nominated for this Award a company must have been operating for less than five years.

MicroNanoSystems Innovation Award - Sponsored by
Micro Nano Systems technologies are accelerating in to the forefront of future microelectronics applications across an extraordinary array of technologies. These tiny machines and processes are set to revolutionise our lives and innovations developed now will decide the future direction of these technologies. This Award is designed to highlight the imagination and innovation that is occurring in the MNS field. The Award will be given to a company or individual who the panel decide has added to the innovative body of knowledge driving microelectronics into new areas

Engineer of the Year
The manufacturing of the first integrated circuit back instigated an industry that is now an economic powerhouse and the most invasive into our everyday lives. The industries that have grown from that first invention are so wide and varied that it is easy to forget that the innovations that started and continue to drive the industry begin as ideas in an engineer’s imagination. Often overlooked when accolades are passed about freely following success they are the first in the firing line when things are not so rosy, engineers are the architects of the industry no matter which part of the equation they work on. The Engineer of the Year Award is given to an individual whose peers and work mates fell that there contribution adds value and impetus to the company’s fortunes.

Foundry of the Year
The manufacturing of a semiconductor device occurs in a purpose built fabrication plant. The cost of such fabs is already prohibitive to the majority of semiconductor companies which is why the last few years have seen the rise of the foundry. With technology nodes changing every couple of years there is an enormous amount of research and capital expenditure required for a foundry to keep up to date and provide a top class service. With many companies going fab-light or fab free there is greater pressure on foundries to be able to provide a manufacturing service. The foundry of the year award is for the manufacturing service the is voted best by peers and customers for the ability to provide world class manufacturing services in a time with great pressure on performance.

CleanTech Award 2008
The fast growing Clean Technology (Cleantech) industry narrows the gap between technology development and the final product. Cleantech is a pervasive concept of manufacturing that impact on most industries. Cleantech describes a broad group of products and services that specifically improve performance, productivity, or efficiency whilst reducing associated costs and waste. The evolution of this industry is an example of knowledge from different skill bases coming together to effectively use combined knowledge and experience. The strong financial foundation and performances of CleanTech companies was not an accident as the early pioneers realised that success was reliant on bring together expertise in all aspects of the business from the start. The improved understanding of global resource and environmental issues has further fuelled the demand for CleanTech solutions for modern life.

The semiconductor industry has been a key driver for the knowledge base that is now implemented to develop CleanTech solutions to a variety of challenges across a diverse spectrum of industries. Whether improving machine performance, reducing energy usage, developing new materials or creating tiny micro machines that can clean oil clicks, electronic based technologies are providing enhancements to CleanTech ideas that would not be possible. The CleanTech Award recognises a product, service or design that achieves the dual goals of improving resource usage without impacting negatively on cost. CleanTech issues traverse the value chain of semiconductors and the solutions that achieve the goals of CleanTech can be from any source. The CleanTech Award seeks to recognise the industry achievements in these areas.
