This industry is going through a new rapid change as new geographical areas enter the market as both manufacturers and consumers. As one of the largest populations in a single country India’s concerted entry into microelectronics manufacturing at a time of rapid growth within the consumer market signals one of the most important drivers of change in this global industry. To ensure we are addressing the most prominent concerns both within and for the Indian semiconductor market, we have gathered an exciting and influential group of individuals to help guide Semiconductor India both now and in the future. Jaswinder S Ahuja
Vice President & Managing Director, Cadence Design Systems, India
Jaswinder S. Ahuja is Corporate Vice President and Managing Director of Cadence Design Systems in India. He is responsible for defining the globalization strategy for Cadence and developing R&D centres in Russia, Taiwan and China. From 2002 to 2004 Jaswinder was based at Cadence headquarters in San Jose, California, and was responsible for establishing and leading Strategic R&D partnerships and R&D Central Operations functions for the company.
Jaswinder started his career with Cadence in 1988 as a software engineer and has led the India operation since 1996. Under his leadership the India centre has grown from an R&D site of around 120 to a corporate resource centre of over 700 employees across R&D, Corporate IT support, Global Customer Care and Field Operations.

Jaswinder has a B. Tech in Electronics Engineering from IT-BHU, Varanasi and an MS in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, USA. He also holds an Executive MBA from Stanford University, USA.

Dr. H V Ananda
Managing Director, Synplicity India Pvt Ltd
As Managing Director of Synplicity India, Dr. H.V. Ananda heads the India Development Centre of Synplicity. Synplicity supplies innovative software solutions that enable the rapid and effective design of programmable logic devices (FPGAs, PLDs and CPLDs). Prior to joining Synplicity, Dr. Ananda served as Director (ASIC) at Real Chip
Communications where he was responsible for implementation of multimillion gate ASICs. Prior to Real Chip, he worked as Additional General Manager at Bharat Electronics Ltd. He was chiefly responsible for setting up integrated circuit fab and design facilities there. He was a member of the team which produced the first saleable Integrated circuit in India.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ananda has been actively associated with government agencies, research labs and academia involved in the development of semiconductors in India. He has been a member of

several committees set up by the Ministry of Information and Technology and the erstwhile Department of Electronics, Government of India, to oversee development of microelectronics in the country and review various projects sponsored by the government at academic institutions and research labs. Dr. Ananda is one of the key members of the University gateway initiative of the India Semiconductor Association that was responsible for signing an memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Belgaum, India. He has authored or co-authored several technical articles in national and international journals. He is a senior member of IEEE. Dr. Ananda holds doctoral (Ph.D.) and Master of Engineering degrees in Electrical Communication Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has more than 34 years of experience in the field of semiconductor technology and design.

Anil Gupta
Managing Director, India Operations, ARM Embedded Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
Anil Gupta joined ARM in April 2007 as the Managing Director for its India Operations. He is responsible for the overall growth and operations of the India design centre, and also hosts ARM’s commercial operations in India.

Anil has more than 20 years experience in the semiconductor industry in the US, Japan and India. Prior to joining ARM, he was the Director for Design Automation and Libraries at Infineon India, where he established a team of more than 100 engineers developing ASIC/SoC libraries and design flows and drove the establishment of cross-site work sharing processes with defined centres of competency. He was also instrumental in establishing an internship programme and university tie-ups and led the founding of Infineon India’s community involvement and support programme, Learn for Life.

Prior to working with Infineon India, Anil worked with Perfectus Technology USA, as founder and GM, developing verification tools and verification IP; with Synopsys USA as Director of Operations for Silicon Library Division, and with Digital Equipment Corp in various capacities. At Perfectus he grew the business from the ground up to $5 million revenue within two and a half years, leading the team to build “C” based SoC verification IP for Fiber Channel, SerialATA, PCIexpress and other protocols. As Director of Operations at Synopsys, he managed development, delivery and support of silicon libraries for all customers and actively supported the growth of the business from revenues of $6 million a year to $30 million a year. Anil holds a Masters degree in Technology from Virginia, USA, and a Bachelors degree in Technology from JNTU, Hyderabad.

Ganesh Guruswamy
Director and Country Manager, Freescale Semiconductor India Pvt. Ltd
Ganesh Guruswamy is the Director and Country Manager of Freescale Semiconductor India. In his current role, Ganesh is responsible for positioning the India operations as a high end Research & Development hub for Freescale globally. He also drives the development of futuristic and cutting edge technology at Freescale’s design centre in the region. Ganesh was responsible for creating a Centre of Excellence for System on Chip (SoC) and Intellectual Property designs from India. He has nearly twenty years of combined, design, development and team leadership experience in the semiconductor industry ranging from architecture to design and methodology.

Prior to joining Freescale, Ganesh worked for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) in the Microprocessor Development Group on the


development of X86 processors.

Ganesh has been awarded a patent in his name in the area of Real time Calibration using a PowerPC based SoC for embedded applications. He has also worked at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) working on INSAT projects.

He holds an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Idaho, USA. While studying he worked at the Microelectronic Research Labs funded by NASA, developing solutions for different projects including a Reconfigurable Datapath Processor.

Dr. Reddy Penumalli
Managing Director, Analog Devices India (ADI)
Dr. Reddy Penumalli is the ManagingDirector for Analog DevicesIndia. Inaddition to his operational and statutoryfunctions, Dr.Reddy is also responsiblefor the company’s India strategy andlongterm planning.

 

Dr. Reddy has been with Analog Devicessince1987 in a variety of managementroles. After serving asthe designtechnology and EDA strategy managerfor 10 years at ADI’s headquarters in the USA, Dr.Reddy was appointed as the Managing Director for Analog Devices’India Product Development Centre (IPDC) in Bangalore in 1997. In this role, he was responsible for the initial growth of the IPDC in the areas of Chip Design (DSP and mixed signal), DSP software development and DSP application engineering. In 2002, he went again to the USA to serve as the company’s Director of University Research. Then in 2004, he returned to India, this time, as .

the Managing Director of company’s Hyderabad design centre, and currently serves as the Managing Director for all of Analog Devices’ India operations.

Prior to joining Analog Devices, Dr. Reddy worked with AT&T Bell labs for over seven years as a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff and Engineering Manager.

Dr. Reddy has a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas.

Katrien Marent
External Communications Director, IMEC
Since August 2007, Katrien Marent has held the position of IMEC’s External Communications Director including corporate, marketing and outreach communications. She joined IMEC in 1992 as Analogue Designer and specialized in design of low-noise readout electronics for high-energy physics. In 1999, she became scientific editor at IMEC’s Business Development Division and was responsible for authoring and editing the research organization’s numerous company technical documents and publications. In 2001, she became Corporate Communications Director at IMEC. Katrien has an engineering degree in microelectronics.

Poornima Shenoy
President, India Semiconductor Association (ISA)
Poornima Shenoy is the first President of ISA. She has 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur and marketing professional. Prior to joining ISA, Poornima was with the Manipal Education & Medical Group as Vice President, Strategy and Development. She has been the Regional Director of the software industry body NASSCOM and was instrumental in setting up their first office in South India – the core of India’s information technology industry. Earlier, Poornima co founded Nexus Consulting, which went on to become India’s premier executive search firm for the knowledge sector. Nexus was acquired by the K.B. Chandrasekhar venture fund e4e in 2000.

Poornima is a recipient of the prestigious Chevening Scholarship for Women in Leadership & Management 2003 by the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

She is co-founder of the group Women in Business & Technology (WBT). Poornima is on the Editorial Advisory Board of EE Times India. She is an Economics graduate from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore and holds an MBA from TAPMI, Manipal. .
